She’s Got Style by Lexie T.

When I opened up my e-mail and saw that Dan had sent me the photos from this shoot we did withOlivia and Jen, I jumped for joy!

Dan and I haven’t done a colorful shoot together recently and our goal is actually to get more out in the next month or two. The most recent colorful editorial we did was this one, back in May.

We added a little funk to this shoot by adding these glasses. Dan got really creative with that idea, hah! I really really love how this shoot captures Olivia’s personality. Some people think that models are really stiff and don’t like to have fun during shoots… but this girl, she’s got that good attitude.

Every shoot I style, I typically have a favorite look where I say, “WE NEED TO SHOOT THIS.” But, during this shoot, I liked it ALL. Part of it is because we all communicated really well as a team with what we all wanted. That’s what collaborations should be like, ya know?

These photos are amazing, needless to say and I can’t wait to show you what Dan and I have next for a fashion editorial 🙂 Stay tuned!

A little about FGI
It all began in 1928 when 17 women, gathered by Edna Woolman Chase, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue, met for lunch in a modest midtown New York restaurant. They had three things in common: Each held a job of consequence in the business of fashion, each held all the others in high regard and together they held a belief that fashion needed a forum, a stage, or a force to express and enhance a widening awareness of the American fashion business and of women’s roles in that business.

The Fashion Group®, conceived at an informal luncheon in 1928 became an organization in 1930, with a place, a purpose, by-laws, officers and women eager to be members.

Some of those Founding and Charter members were:

Elizabeth Arden, Margaret Case, Eleanor Roosevelt, Helena Rubinstein, Julia Coburn, Lilly Dache, Jessica Daves, Nan Duskin, Edith Head, Eleanor LeMaire, Claire McCardell, Clare Potter, Virginia Pope, Dorothy Shaver, Adele Simpson, Carmel Snow, and Miss Tobé.

Their first office space was donated by Louis Fairchild in his Women’s Wear Daily building on East 12th Street. The second office space was at 572 Madison Avenue, donated by Harper’s Bazaar. Then in 1934, from the minutes of the Board meeting of October 18: Discussion as to how to meet the rent of the contemplated space in 30 Rockefeller Center included a Fashion Group party using talent within the membership lampooning fashion, to be known as The Fashion Follies™. Today, The Fashion Group® offers membership to both men and women.

We are lucky to have a Minneapolis/ St. Paul Chapter. Please come and join us this Thursday!!

MN NEXT TOP MODEL!

Ok, we are SO kidding with the title!!! We love ANTM as much as the next girl, but we really wanted to feature someone we think already IS a top model here in Minneapolis.  But wouldn’t that be amazing if there was a Minnesota-based reality model TV show? Who would play Tyra?

The Diggs

AS: Who would you say is your favorite designer?

K: Local? Emma Berg, ArielSimone, Kevin Kramp…the list goes on– I cant really just chose one due to the diversity that each designer has. International? Alexander McQueen is by far my favorite designer. His love for creativity will speak to many generations to come. R.I.P. I also love Coco Chanel. Her story is very inspiring and I also named my cat after her.

AS: Tell us an interesting fact.

K: I have never fallen during a show, and hopefully I never will!

AS: Best and/or worst part of modeling in Minnesota?

K: The best part of modeling in Minnesota, for me, would be getting to build a relationship with designers, models, and other people in the fashion industry. Everyone here is striving to go somewhere with their talent and for that, I feel, we have a common bond. The worst part about modeling in Minnesota is that there are not a lot of clients willing to book models. I also have a more editorial look and there are not a lot of opportunities for me to get work here in Minnesota.

AS: Can you tell a bit about your thoughts on Minnesota Fashion & Culture?

K: MN fashion culture is rapidly growing. With new events and fashion shows added every year, I think Minnesota will soon have a rich fashion scene. There are a lot of talented people out here.

AS: What would you say your biggest accomplishment or important moment in your modeling career is thus far?

K: Honestly I feel like every show and job I get booked for is an accomplishment. In order for someone to be willing to book me, I have to prove to the client that I am responsible and can deliver what they’re looking for and I’m glad I can do that.

AS: Tell us your future goals– either modeling or not.

K: Graduate from Augsburg College, move to NY for modeling, travel the world. I also want to get into acting in the near future.

AS: Who is your Fashion/ Style Icon?

K: GRACE JONES: I love, love, love her!!!I love the fact that she is talented all around.. singing, modeling, and acting. My style is definitely inspired by her.

AS: What would you say your source of inspiration is?

K: I don’t really have one source of inspiration….I like to learn from my environment and make the best of life.

AS: Any advice for aspiring models?

K: Well, I’m not going to lie and say that modeling is easy because its not. What I want to tell others is that make sure to surround yourself with positive people who love and support you. You will be challenged both mentally and physically, but you have to put what’s important first. Because of modeling, I have met some wonderful people who I will always cherish. If you truly love it, don’t give up on it no matter what.

(Don’t you just love her jacket and sheer gold top!? We do!)

I Heart Cliché

ArielSimone has been so fortunate to sell at one of Minneapolis’ finest boutiques so we thought it was about time to share the love and tell you all why we love Cliché so much.

Cliché is a fashionable clothing boutique, located at 2403 Lyndale Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN 55405. If you didn’t already know, it is TOTALLY  the place to go for non-traditional Minneapolis fashion. The store carries an exceptional combination of nationally sold brands and exclusive foreign labels but also supports local designs. Over 30 local clothing, jewelry and accessory designers make a home at Cliché and ArielSimone is no exception. Shoppers are able to tell right away that  store owners Josh and Delayna Sundberg pay close attention to current trends while managing the expectations of the Minneapolis market. So much that Cliché was voted “#1 Hottest Local Boutique” by VitaMn readers 4 years running and “Best Boutique” by City Pages in 2007, 2008 and 2010. Cliché has an online store as well as blog detailing current store events.

We had a little conversation last night with Josh to tell us more about why Cliché  is such a successful boutique, especially with so few in Minnesota. It sounds like that Cliché listens to its patrons and has the right inventory to appeal to all customers. From his perspective, considering both higher and lower price points as well as a mix of safer and bolder garments, Cliché  has created a perfect balance that ultimately supports itself. One of the other amazing ways that Cliché  supports its customers and local designers are frequent events. Cliché participates in Vision fashion events, occasional sponsorship of local designer fashion shows as well as a few in store events. The next one is  Friday evening,  Sept 2nd, 2011.

So…I’m sure that’s enough for you to want to shop there! If you are a local emerging artist, you might want to consider Cliché if you haven’t already…. We asked Adrienne the following:

How long has ArielSimone been selling in Cliché?

This fall season will be my third season selling at Cliché

How did that relationship evolve?

I’d heard about Cliché through someone else (after I’d heard their great reputation with other local designer) and I set up an appointment with them after that!

What do you love the most about your relationship with Cliché?

I love how involved they are with the fashion community along with all the local designers. They really nurture and support local artisans. They actually care and want to make things work!

Cliché also hosts an annual fashion show called Avoid The Grey, which exclusively supports local designers. ArielSimone was thrilled to participate in that event last winter (below are some incredible photos from the evening).
