She’s Got Style by Lexie T.

When I opened up my e-mail and saw that Dan had sent me the photos from this shoot we did withOlivia and Jen, I jumped for joy!

Dan and I haven’t done a colorful shoot together recently and our goal is actually to get more out in the next month or two. The most recent colorful editorial we did was this one, back in May.

We added a little funk to this shoot by adding these glasses. Dan got really creative with that idea, hah! I really really love how this shoot captures Olivia’s personality. Some people think that models are really stiff and don’t like to have fun during shoots… but this girl, she’s got that good attitude.

Every shoot I style, I typically have a favorite look where I say, “WE NEED TO SHOOT THIS.” But, during this shoot, I liked it ALL. Part of it is because we all communicated really well as a team with what we all wanted. That’s what collaborations should be like, ya know?

These photos are amazing, needless to say and I can’t wait to show you what Dan and I have next for a fashion editorial 🙂 Stay tuned!

A little about FGI
It all began in 1928 when 17 women, gathered by Edna Woolman Chase, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue, met for lunch in a modest midtown New York restaurant. They had three things in common: Each held a job of consequence in the business of fashion, each held all the others in high regard and together they held a belief that fashion needed a forum, a stage, or a force to express and enhance a widening awareness of the American fashion business and of women’s roles in that business.

The Fashion Group®, conceived at an informal luncheon in 1928 became an organization in 1930, with a place, a purpose, by-laws, officers and women eager to be members.

Some of those Founding and Charter members were:

Elizabeth Arden, Margaret Case, Eleanor Roosevelt, Helena Rubinstein, Julia Coburn, Lilly Dache, Jessica Daves, Nan Duskin, Edith Head, Eleanor LeMaire, Claire McCardell, Clare Potter, Virginia Pope, Dorothy Shaver, Adele Simpson, Carmel Snow, and Miss Tobé.

Their first office space was donated by Louis Fairchild in his Women’s Wear Daily building on East 12th Street. The second office space was at 572 Madison Avenue, donated by Harper’s Bazaar. Then in 1934, from the minutes of the Board meeting of October 18: Discussion as to how to meet the rent of the contemplated space in 30 Rockefeller Center included a Fashion Group party using talent within the membership lampooning fashion, to be known as The Fashion Follies™. Today, The Fashion Group® offers membership to both men and women.

We are lucky to have a Minneapolis/ St. Paul Chapter. Please come and join us this Thursday!!

ARENA Bikini Beach Baby Recap!

Well , we certainly had a fabulous time Saturday night at the Calhoun Beach Club. If you missed the 5th Annual Arena Bikini show on Saturday, you missed a great production! The Beach Baby!  themed swimwear show was awesome, and packed with well over 300 people! This year we really loved how each designer was given the same vintage theme with the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s as inspiration. It really helped in producing a cohesive show, even with the dancing. Mathew choreographed great dance segments that really highlighted many of the popular moves from those eras.

Our segment of six looks ran first, complete with three men’s and three women’s looks; the theme being vintage lingerie swimwear. We are still waiting for our photos in color, which we will upload to facebook. In the mean time, take a peek at a few b&w photos:

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I really wanted to show the different styles of that time but still mix in current trends. So we showed the white bridal one-piece as something a beach bride could wear today, and classic high waist that speaks of a past time, but I also still wanted to keep the ‘sexy’ aspect of lingerie with the garters and micro mini skirt!

Here is a video of the final walkthrough– would have been amazing if Corey had captured the begining since we were behind stage and did not get to see our models. http://youtu.be/hscYohwVDbM

All of these styles and more will be available for purchase on our site in a few weeks, but until then feel free to contact Adrienne directly via email if you need one sooner: Adrienne@ArielSimone.com.

Chocolate & Couture

We’ve been gone for a while, but don’t fret we’re back! We missed everyone last week; we’ve been working on some pretty big things here at ArielSimone, and we wanted to make sure we kept you all in the loop…

As many have heard the story, last summer when I went to Italy I went on a grueling and life changing hiking trip through the Cinque Terre Mountains. Well, during that rigid hike and throughout the rest of my Italian escape I really got close with one of my great friends Jamie Greenberg Arlin of Cake Bite Girl.

This is us midway through the hike of our life. Don’t mind the sweat and exasperation/desperation.

And this is what Jamie truly looks like, with her delicious creations!

I haven’t seen Jamie since Italy, but I’m so excited that we’re now going to be doing a show together in Chicago. We’ll be rocking out in downtown Chicago for a spring fashion show featuring ArielSimone that will combine other stylish local designers, Jamie’s delicious desserts, and cocktails at Jbar on March 22, 2012 at 7-10pm. Tickets are available online.

Here are the details:

YOUR TICKET INCLUDES: Fashion show at 8:30pm, 2 Complimentary glasses of wine, Passed cake bites, Chance at 50 Gift bags, and a Raffle prize entry. Available online.

Here’s a little teaser of the Cake Bite Girl treats that will be at the show!

Red Velvet Trios – OMG YUM…

Salted Caramel Cake Bites – My mouth is watering

Blue Velvet Cake Bites – Red Velvet, but blue?? Ok, I’m sold….

Honestly, I can’t wait to try each and every option, so now I need to figure out how many pounds I’m willing to gain on this trip  😉

Realia by Jen: A Look at what’s to Come

As you know, one of our favorite jewelry designers to partner with is Jennifer Scheffler of Realia by Jen. We loooooove working with Jen for anything fashion related– whether it be for photo shoots, runway shows or holiday parties!

We are so excited to be working with Jen this season for Minnesota Fashion Week and we wanted to take a moment to introduce her and her jewels. And that’s not all– We also think that  in addition to enjoying a sneak peak of the designs , you’ll also enjoy a snippet of an exclusive interview that we had with the designer herself! Photos include  the jewelry that Jen made for Avoid The Grey for our lovely model, Elle Lemler as well the three piece mini-collection that was created for sale! The full interview will be posted later this month with more images!

When asked what projects she is currently working on, Jen’s response is so perfectly timed with our post!

JS: I am in the process of pulling together my 2012 (spring/summer and fall/winter)
collections! As well, I am working with local designer ArielSimone on a mini-collection
for the upcoming Avoid The Grey show with Cliché. It is a beautiful and deliciously
sparkly mini collection with my favorite Swarovski crystals all over it! It is a pairing that
will take us all outside of the box! (pun intended…)

Allow us to take a moment to promote the said (and much anticipated) Avoid the Grey show, since it is not too late to purchase tickets!  It is THIS SATURDAY at 79 13th Avenue NE, 7 PM SHARP! Come and see the amazing work of  Realia by Jen paired with our very exciting and very bright ArielSimone Avoid the Grey garment. It will be fun to see what new jewels Jen has in store this season and a perfect time to consider what pieces you might want for Valentine’s Day or to pair with another special occasion on the calendar.

Obviously, you know where to get ArielSimone garments, but to purchase Jen’s jewels, visit Realia by Jen online. Stay tuned for our much longer feature on Jen, covering everything from her personal aesthetic to advice for up and comers!

Youtube and Twin Cities Live!

Hey everyone!  In the past week I have had two big developments occur in my design/blogging life!  I decided to start a youtube.com channel to supplement my blogs each week.  I have posted two vblogs so far, I plan on posting more behind the scenes stuff starting later this week.  Be sure to check it out, and let me know what you think!

I also will be showing one of my pieces this Saturday at the MOA in the Red Hearts For Fashion event.  There will be two presentations at noon and 2pm, both in the Rotunda. Here is more info on the event!

And last but not least: I will be a featured designer on tomorrow’s segment of Twin Cities Live! I will be previewing what I will be showing in Saturday’s show as well as being interviewed.  I am super excited! It will air during the 3-4pm hour, be sure to tune in! Here is the design I will be showing!  No doubt, my model: the beautiful Lydia Mae, will rock it!

Get Your Tickets to Avoid the Grey

ArielSimone is going to be presenting a new one of kind look in this year’s momentous Avoid the Grey fashion show, held by Cliché!  This annual show is known for its Rolodex of great local designers, and trends. This  year’s show promises to be even better than the last!

For more than seven years, Cliché boutique in the Uptown neighborhood in Minneapolis has produced runway shows featuring the ready-to-wear collections of the most talented local designers. This year, expect something different as runway devolves to voyeurism.

For Avoid the Grey, Cliché allows guests to gaze clandestinely into the private thoughts and inspiration of ten local designers. Each designer has concealed the inspiration for their 2012 collection within a chamber. Peer through these chambers and see what has never been shared before…the birth of a collection. No binoculars required, just a pair of prying eyes.

Featuring clothing and accessories by Amanda Christine, ArielSimone, Carmichael Claith, Chrysopoeia, Cocoquette, Danielle Everine, Gina Marie Vintage, Kathryn V., Kjurek Couture, KR Designs, Larissa Loden, Needle & Black, Rachel Blomgren, Realia by Jen, Sarah M. Holm and Sweet T.

And for this year’s show, ArielSimone is once again pairing with unmatched local designer of Realia Jewelry Jen Scheffler.

Art work by Bryant Locher, Caroline Debevec, Daniel Jaffe, Emilie Robinson and Isa Gagarin. AND  a short film by Andrea Bursott.

It’s a cash bar only event, and please not that this event will start promptly at 7pm. Unlike past years, there will not be two separate shows, so please come on time to see section 1 and section 2 of the show!

If you haven’t gotten tickets yet, ArielSimone has a plethora of tickets left, so please email Adrienne directly at Adrienne@ArielSimone.com. Tickets can also be purchased at Cliché.

Behind the Scenes: ArielSimone Holiday Soirée

This past Friday I had the pleasure of modeling for the lovely ladies of ArielSimone. I hope that many of you were able to make it– it was a super fun event. But it you weren’t, there have been previous blog posts about it here, and here is another!

As a model, one of the most fun parts of walking in shows or doing photo shoots is the hair and makeup you get to wear. It’s all part of the fantasy to be dolled up and wear glamorous clothing. Here are some backstage shots of us models getting ready at the salon:

Me getting my hair done! Naomi at Taj Salon and Spa in Minneapolis did an amazing job on my hair! Loved it.

Here is a shot of me in finished hair and makeup. The stylists at the salon kept saying that I looked like a doll. What do you think?

{L–>R: Abbie, Sarah, Me}

Here is a picture of two other models and myself, blowing kisses to Taj after having the final touches put on our looks. Thank you!

The event was a smashing success; we got to wear swimwear, which was a blast! Check out this suit, love!

Swimwear is fast becoming my favorite type of modeling. Maybe it’s my dream of being a Victoria’s Secret Model, or maybe it’s just that these ArielSimone S/S 2012 suits are so cute!! Definitely check them out when they are released! Check out my blog for more photos!

A Big THANK YOU for our Successful Holiday Event!

Thank you to all that came out to support our (very first) ArielSimone Holiday Soiree! We had a nice turnout and really enjoyed all aspects of the event— especially those who made it possible. We wanted to give a brief rundown for those of you who were not able to make it.

First things first, we arrived at the event space– Elsworth Menswear, located in Downtown Minneapolis. We organized the space to make sure we had a place for all our for-sale garments (archival pieces were 40% off!!!). We also made sure that we designated space for our lovely vendors ( Realia by Jen & Irely Intimates) as well as our amazing DJ (Ander Other: Doomtree).  Once we had that all figured out, our models arrived for Hair & Makeup (thank you taj salon and spa!!). We made the wise decision to take the models to the salon rather than have the artists come to us, which allowed us to have more use of our backstage space for steaming garments and further setup.

Once our lovely vendors arrived, we were able to get them set up. Irely had some amazing product that was positioned at the front of the store. Realia by Jen was shelved closer to the ArielSimone garments for sale, which made it easy to assign gorgeous gems to all of our 8 runway looks. Not going to lie, we were also able to assign amazing gems to our outfits too.

Once 5pm rolled around, everything was ready to go! Ander Other was creating an incredible atmosphere with his music choices, bottles of wine were being popped open while shoppers and supporters gathered for mingling. Just as we planned, at 6:30 we presented 4 holiday looks in a mini runway show as well as our 4 S/S looks. We were also really lucky to have a male model in our show, styled by Keith Dorsett.

It was a lot of work and coordination, but we had so much fun planning this event and look forward to more! We want to specially thank our models– Lucie Jane, Sarah, Abbie and Yana for wearing our garments so flawlessly! And a special thanks to the photographers present– Mirza Nizamuddin and Kevin C. Walker for documenting our event and our looks. For more photos, check out Facebook.
