Early Stages of Developing a Manufacturing Team

{Photo source}

We have some exciting news to share before we ring in the New Year. In 2012 we will be adding members to the ArielSimone team! ArielSimone has been diligently working to build a small manufacturing team to assist with producing our seasonal collections.  Our lofty goals are in high hopes of expanding our brand and product in 2012!!

Many designers will eventually run into the dilemma that we have….how can we reach more people with only one person behind the sewing machine? There is an undeniable growing demand for the ArielSimone line as we gain more exposure.  We love this, and we want to continue to reach even more people by adding more online retail sites in 2012. We  also have plans to sell our collections to more than one boutique in the new year. More opportunities and places to buy ArielSimone simply means more ArielSimone product. This is such an exciting vision, but not a job for one person– we need additional sewers!

Since this was a new venture for us, we were not sure how we wanted to go about doing it. We knew that we wanted it to be cost-effective, and well-managed. While we wanted it to free us up for brand representation as well as increasing sale volume, we did not want to over-produce and lose resources. One of our values at ArielSimone– and something that sets us apart from other clothing lines—is that all of our clothing is hand-made. We decided that finding contract sewers was a good place to start for our ready to wear clothing.  Admittedly, we are both thrilled and nervous to move in this direction, but we are definitely confident that this is the right direction for ArielSimone. We look forward to sharing this journey with you all!

Fashion Trends: Spring 2012 by Nick Casperson

With almost no snow and the warmer temperatures (wow, still can’t believe, being a life-long Minnesota resident, I think the thermometer reaching 37 is warm), I’m already feeling as if it’s spring…. so now is the perfect time to look at the latest trends coming up for Spring 2012.

Trend #1: Birds

This Marc by Marc Jacobs dress is a perfect example of how bird prints and other bird inspired pieces will be big for spring.

Trend #2: Pastels

This dress from one of my favorite designers, Prada, was one of the standouts I found that demonstrates how this spring cool light colors will be featured everywhere.

Trend #3: Peplum

Not one of my favorites since I like a sleek, minimal figure myself, peplum can be found sprinkled through most designer’s spring collection.

Trend #4: Digital Prints

As technology grows, it’s starting to make it’s way into almost every designer’s collection, as demonstrated by the fabric prints seen in many designs for this spring. A perfect example is this Vera Wang top and skirt.

A Student Designer’s New Work…

The semester is over!  It is finally the holidays and I am loving it.  I hope you all had a wonderful December and are looking forward to the new year like I am!

As some of you know, I am currently pursuing a major in Apparel/Fashion Design at the University of Minnesota.  This past semester was the first into my Junior year and I am still loving it 🙂

This last semester I dove into a few new projects I’ve never be accustomed to working with before, including upcycling, knitwear, and tailoring.  It was difficult, but I learned a lot and was able to enhance my skills in a lot of ways.

Here are a few shots of my newest work!

This is a shot of my very first hand tailored jacket.  It is wool with leather detailing.

This second shot is of my knitwear body suit and tennis skirt.  Let me tell you, knits are a completely different beast to tackle than wovens…

And finally, my uncycled project: the first shot is of the very 1980’s coat from my mother.  I was able to transform it into the second shot, a cute retro-esce mini babydoll dress.

Check out my website as well as my blog to see more of my work!

MYSTIQUE 2012: NYE

This New Year’s Eve, we will be attending Mystique 2012: Le Cirque at Epic Event Center and we want to invite you to ‘dance upon the dividing line between reality and fantasy’ with us!! This event promises to be an enchanting avant-garde celebration with an exciting fashion show produced by Ignite Models, Secrets Fashion Agency and CostumeRentals, a combined project of the Guthrie Theater and The Children’s Theatre Company. Our dear friend from TheBrownGirlFiles Joan Erakit, will be hosting this special evening AND will be wearing custom ArielSimone designs. We simply could not be more thrilled.

In addition to the exquisite fashion show, the evening will grace us with awe inspiring ariel dance art performances. As party guests are drawn to the dance floor in celebration of the New Year to come, we will be raising our glasses of champy with our friends, admiring the beautiful gravity-defying movements of world-renowned Circus Juventas’s le cirque.

The amazing event will take place at Epic Event Center, conveniently located in the heart of downtown Minneapolis. Surely, we will be experiencing the most unique and exciting New Year’s Eve bash in the Twin Cities.

Avoid the Grey 2012

We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas with family and friends!

We wanted to share some exciting news with you all! As you know, fashion week is coming up in February, so most of the shows are in the production stages. One of the awesome events that ArielSimone will partake in is the annual Avoid the Grey fashion show produced by Cliché!

We were given the opportunity to show at Avoid the Grey last year when it was at Old Arizona, and we had two great sold out shows. If you were in attendance last year, just know that this year is going to be even bigger and better than that– so make sure you get your tickets early!

We don’t want to give too much away…. but this show is going to be extremely unique, definitely a must-see! There will be ten designers showing, all of whom offer their collections at Cliché. As well, there will be about five jewelry designers accompanying the designers. Unlike last year, this season the designers get to create using their own inspiration!

Make sure you keep your schedules open for the evening of  Saturday Feb 4th for this spectacular show! We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on!

2011 Best Dressed List by Adrienne Yancy

As another year comes to a close with Christmas, I wanted to wish all of my friends, supporter, followers, and especially the ArielSimone team a Merry Christmas! I greatly appreciate all of the continual love and support and can’t wait until the New Year!

At the end of every year, before I make new goals and new collections I like to review what I had accomplished in the past year, and what the runway trends were from the past year. So I wanted to share one of my personal trend lists with you all. As a designer, these are my favorite trends of the year!

Enjoy and Merry Christmas to you and yours!

I love all of the backless dresses, and this pattern is perfect!

The sky-high slit was so sexy on almost all figures this year.

Color-blocking was a look that everyone could do simply.

The all over sheer lace was a daring hit.

Leather pieces were also a pleasant trend. This is a trend I think will continue for the next season.

From the nude lip, to the nude shoes, to the nude dresses, I loved it all!

And finally, we can’t forget all of the avant garde looks from the year! I can’t do without them!!

Male Gift Guide for Those Last Minute Shoppers by Nick Casperson

I seem to hear all the time how hard it is to buy men a gift that they will actually like, so today I thought I would come up with a list of perfect little gifts that anybody would be certain to like… and this list will certainly have no cologne, ties, or ugly sweaters of any kind. The biggest tip I have is that items on that above list are the most subjective to an individual’s taste and therefore will almost always result in that fake smile and the response “oh… I love it…”

  • The Art of Shaving Starter Kit – $25 available at The Art of Shaving store in Mall of America or online.

This makes the perfect gift for those of you who want your man to have a soft cheek as you lean in for a kiss… and it’s unscented so they won’t complain about the odd smell.

  • The Nook simple touch E-reader – $99 available at Barnes and Noble stores or online.

The one thing that can probably never go wrong is buying a guy some kind of electronics… not to mention the Nook is used for more than just books, it also can download newspapers and magazines. It is the perfect distraction for those wanting to catch up on their reading during a lunch break or riding the bus home.

  • iCufflinks – $128 available online.

Combining fashion and technology… it doesn’t really get any better than that. These cufflinks pulse with a white light just like the power switch of a Mac. You will literally be adding a flash to a rather ordinary suit, not to mention be the envy of all of your coworkers.

  •  Steve Madden Brent Suede Chukka boots – $115 available online at or at any Macy’s store.

Chukka boots seem to be all the rage this season because of their comfort and versatility. Depending on the quality and the material they can be paired with nearly any outfit. Steve Madden is also one of my favorite shoe lines because they are not only very stylish but are very comfortable which is hard to find.
