Autumn Item: One-Sleeve Mini

Ok, well we have to embrace this, even though it’s Monday. September 20th has come and past and that means it AUTUMN. So, if you are feeling like we are, then you need to purchase something to gear into fall. Something cute and flirty that can be worn on those cooler-than-summer-65-degree evenings…. We have the PERFECT suggestion!

{Tempted?}

Meet One-Sleeved Mini Dress. She’s only $89. She’s a small and there’s only one of her in this print!! So you kinda need to act fast if you want this exact one. Or any color or print can be purchased upon request. This mini frock features an asymmetrical neckline with ONE billowy sleeve! This dress hits at the mid-thigh. It’s cute for that autumn orchard date or that fabulous fashion week event. Don’t you just LURVE those rich autumn colors? Srlsy, it’s amazing.

Adrienne Tells us about the Emmys: Best & Worst Dressed

Adrienne Tells us about the Emmys:  Best & Worst Dressed
by Adrienne Yancy
I love watching all award shows. The glitz, the glam, the paparazzi, the interviews! The ball gowns, diamonds, and spectacular heels! I just can’t get enough. Recently the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards aired, but unfortunately I only caught about 45 minutes of it. In that 45 minutes, however, I fell in love– and fell out of my chair– over the best and worst dressed garments of that evening. I love to start on a good note, so to begin, I’d love to present…..
The nominees for the best dressed:
Christina Hendricks in a silver Johanna Johnson gown with amazing bead work (her girls are workin’ tonight).
Lea Michele wearing a red, backless, floor length Marchesa gown. I love me a blackless dress!
Loretta Devine in a green gown, featuring a plunging neckline and open draped shoulders….
hm… reminds me of something (ArielSimone purple dress with open shoulders)
Kate Winslet in a red (very popular this upcoming season if you havent noticed) mermaid Elie Saab gown.
Sofia Vergara in an impeccably fit gown by Vera Wang. The color and neckline are both amazing and not seen being worn by anyone else that night.
Evan Rachel Wood in a black fully beaded Elie Saab gown with padded shoulders.
Elie Saab can do no wrong in my eyes. The proof is in the pudding.

And the award for best dressed goes to: Loretta Devine – Not only does she step out of her usually matronly comfort zone for something sexy and chic. But she’s right on trend with the strong emerald color. She’s also smart to highlight her assets (the girls!) with her plunging neckline and hide the imperfections (her waist) with the gathered waistband. Great Job!
And the nominees for worst dressed:
Gwyneth Paltrow in a midriff bearing (belly dancer-ish) Pucci beaded number.
Julianna Margulies, whose unflatteringly stiff bodice looked like a building with windows… in an Armani Prive gown.
Katie Holmes in a too simple, and very forgetful blue racerfront Calving Klein dress.
She looks like she popped into the local Macy’s to buy it off the rack.
Jayma Mays in a pretty in pink 7 year olds pageant dress by Zuhair Murad.
Zooey Deschanel also in a precious pink prom inspired gown (NOT!!!) by Monique Lhuillier.
Melissa McCarthy (yes, the funny one from Bridesmaids) in a self-designed blue patchwork dress with padded shoulders.
And the award for worst dressed goes to: Melissa McCarthy – Just because you are plus sized does not mean you have to wear an unflattering hide-it-all smock.
**Advice from ArielSimone: (For women sizes 00-28) Look to Miss Loretta Devine for inspiration. There is a way to show your good parts and hide your bad. It’s so easy to look great if you’re a sample size because every dress fits in all the right places. If you’re not a sample size like todays Emmy winners, you still have to use what you’ve got, your good and your bad, and MAKE IT WORK.

World premiere of eight original Christopher Straub designs fashioned from abstract paintings on canvas by Patrick Kemal Pryor.

RECAP: We were greeted by a collection of limes at the bottom of the first level staircase…Symbolism? Directions? Art? Random? We followed the stairs and at each turn, the pile of limes continued to invite us closer and closer to the actual event space. Finally we arrived to a room full of art admirers, fragranced with the sweet combination of chocolate and wine.

As a friend of Christophers’ (remember our Spotlight feature?), we really didn’t know what to expect when we decided to go support him, but we were pleasantly surprised to see a true showing of art mixed with fashion. The gallery space was great, ample room to walk around, and  360 degrees view of all of the garments. Eight models stood on podiums in complete deadpan faces. The lighting was perfect (and we all know how important lighting is after Friday’s Envision Show).  And while beautiful, none of the pieces looked particularly ready-to-wear. We will explain that in a minute.

We can only imagine the artistic process  for the collection…for designer Christopher Straub and painter Patrick Kemal Pryor, which came first? The paintings? The construction of the garment? The sketches? The sketches, then the cutting of the canvas, then the painting? We have the answer. Patrick painted canvasses, and then Christopher cut and sewed the actual canvas into garments– making them a definite art piece instead of a ready-to-wear garment. The  eight garments were made out of three different paintings. One a chalky peach painting, one was a vivid red, and one a sea blue. We can only imagine how large these paintings were to make all of these pieces! All the garments were on sale that evening and will be sold as art pieces, including a mannequin display (how cool is that?)!

Christopher seemed right in his element floating around the room in conversation while being photographed non-stop all evening. We are happy to say this is one of the better showings we have been to. The models’ styling was clean, the lighting and platforms were perfect. We also appreciated how Christopher closed his presentation the same way he introduced his collection… with empty mannequins, walking each individual model out one by one, replacing the mannequin, only later, to relieve them one by one, and place the dress and dress-form back on the platform. Overall a very clean and well presented collaboration.

NY.FNO

We have been literally counting down the days until yesterday– when ArielSimone finally touched ground in NYC for Fashion Week 2011.

Fashion’s Night Out (FNO) is pretty much the tailgating of the whole extravagant New York Fashion Superbowl (aka New York Fashion Week), which this year is scheduled from Thursday, September 8 to Thursday, September 15, 2011.

Designers gather from around the world to exhibit their Spring/Summer 2012 collections and more designers, celebrities, photographers, stylists, bloggers, editors–anyone involved in the industry, really– come together to celebrate and congregate. SO MUCH FUN!

To follow suit with the sports theme, The Opening Ceremonies (which is really what they were called) were held at the notoriously hip Ace Hotel. It was fabulously carnival themed equipped with photo booths,  caricature drawings, cotton candy and spiked snow cones. Let the games begin!!!

Fabulous Friday Find!!

We just listed a new suit on etsy! This intriguing combination of elegant and athletic includes a twist front top which ties in the back and boy shorts. There is also the fabulous optional adding a halter strap, which of course can be added when requested at the time of purchase. The boy short bottoms are low-rise and medium coverage in the rear. It’s so adorable and so perfect for those of us who want to be a bit more modest at the beach. Loves it!

A suit for September!

We can hardly believe that August is over, which means summer is over too!! Well, we suppose technically there are a couple more weeks left but it really feels over with the end of August, with school starting and the change in energy all occurring at once.

We hope that all of you out on the East Coast are safe and dry now that Hurricane Irene has passed….we also hope that you will be able to enjoy the few days left of the summer. We wanted to share some of our just recently etsy-listed pieces with you and give you something to look forward to!

Even though summer is a favorite season of ArielSimone, we have some pretty exciting things in store for the fall. Some new items, wedding designs, a trip to NYC during Fashion week, a photo shoot of the new collection and some appearances during Minneapolis Fashion Week are a few things we have planned for this month and the next. Get ready cause we are!

In the mean time, have a look at today’s featured suit….

We actually posted this on Etsy last week but saved blogging about it until today simply because we thought that it would make September first a bit warmer.

This suit includes the rectangle halter top, and any bottoms that you choose: Regular, Brazilian or Low-Rise Boy shorts. Totally awesome and definitely accommodates women of all sizes and preferences.
